Tracy Alewine

I started coming to Glen Arden when I was four years old, and continued to spend my summers here until I was eighteen. I was a camper, junior counselor, and counselor, and taught sailing and mountaineering. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Philosophy at Wofford College. I then attended the Charleston School of Law and spent nearly a year working as a prosecutor in Greenville, SC. It was with great joy that I returned to Glen Arden in 2010, and it feels as though I never left. I live in Greenville with my husband Jared and sweet dog Bella.

Jennifer Smith

Glen Arden has been an important part of my life for the past 11 years. I have come to these mountains as a camper, JCT, and a counselor. My experience paddling down rivers and leading songs in the dining hall gave me the confidence to take on leadership opportunities throughout my college career. I attended Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. There I served as Vice President of the Student Government Association, the Student Programming Association, Order of Omega, and Delta Zeta Sorority. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication, Public Relations and served as Deputy Finance Director for a congressional campaign before returning to the mountains of Glen Arden.

Office Manager Lori Coggins

I joined the Glen Arden staff in 1999 as Office Manager. My initial ties to Glen Arden began the year I was married (1981) since my father-in-law, Raymond Coggins, had worked at Glen Arden since the year it began. I have an Associates Degree in Business Management. I live in Tuxedo with my husband, Coy. We have a son, Seth, and a grandson, Justin.

How Our Staff is Chosen

Eighty percent of our staff are former Glen Arden campers who have returned to the camp that was so important to their lives growing up. They are superb role models, and their influence extends beyond the camp season. They are the foundation for the wonderful atmosphere of Camp Glen Arden.

The young women who are chosen to join the Glen Arden family as staff members are individuals who are committed, first and foremost, to the development of children. They have a strong sense of purpose, exemplify moral character, have a warm and happy outlook, and have an awareness of the impact they will have on impressionable children.

In summary, the successful Glen Arden counselor:

Our Camper to Counselor Ratio

A CGA camper and counselor togetherWe have an overall 3:1 camper/counselor ratio. In the cabins, which house the youngest campers, the ratio is 2:1. Maximum enrollment is 162 girls per session.

Training

Our entire staff is present for staff training, which usually comprises 4-5 days prior to the arrival of the campers. During this time, much work is accomplished, traditions explained, rules, regulations and policies are discussed, and songs are learned. Very importantly, the special Glen Arden staff camaraderie takes hold and grows throughout the camping season.
