Adventure

Our greatest resource is the wilderness.  The mountains of the Blue Ridge are some of the most beautiful anywhere.  There are well known rocks to climb as well as our own Capps Rock, here in camp.  World class rivers, including the Nantahala, Ocoee, and Chattooga, are nearby as is one of the last stands of virgin timber in the east, the Joyce Kilmer Wilderness.  The Appalachian Trail, the trails in Pisgah National

Forest and Linville Gorge and many trails in our own forest are used in our mountaineering program.   Depending on her skill level, a camper can sign up for a day or overnight paddling trip, a day or overnight rock climbing trip, or a one to four day backpacking trip.  As a camper gains outdoor skills, she is encouraged to sign up for the many out-of-camp trips offered.

For the past 10 summers, our campers have hiked a different portion of the Appalachian Trail.  Our more experienced hikers are invited to take part in this four-day backpack adventure.  In preparation for this trek, these hikers are taught proper trail techniques, including packing gear, packing and prepping food, basic first-aid and trail safety, and leave no trace principles.  Camp eagerly awaits the hikers’ return, which always features trail tales in song!Safety is paramount and our lead staff members are trained in the latest wilderness protocols to ensure a safe, fun and productive outing for every camper.
